Vale Tudo (translated as "anything goes") is a full-contact combat sport with a very limited number of rules, that became popular in Brazil during the 20th century.
Vale Tudo's fighting format allows the use of wrestling techniques like throws, joint locks, leverages, and also stricking techniques delivered with every part of the body in every part of the opponent's body (with the exception of eyes and groin). Generally, only bites and scratches are not allowed.
Because of its limited ruleset, Vale Tudo competitions allows bouts between pratictioners of many different fighting styles, and has been considered a precursor to Mixed martial arts.
